Tuition

Whether your child needs help in maths or English or both, we’ve got the right support for you

English, Maths and Verbal Reasoning for students in Year 4, 5, 6 and above (KS2 and early KS3)

Our tuition can help your child improve in their school work and propel them ahead of their classmates. Your child will learn the skills to confidently sit the 11 plus, Common Entrance, and SATs.

We don’t just coach your child to answer exam questions, We actually teach them the entire KS2 knowledge and beyond.  Our group tuition is capped to a maximum of six students, so they have ample opportunity to interact and engage with the tutor.

Your child will learn English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning and exam strategies.

The English sessions are catered to exceed the scope of primary school’s levels. The 11 plus exams are frequently using texts from KS3 and KS4. Students will learn comprehension skills, vocabulary, punctuation, grammar and creative writing.

For maths, we begin by strengthening the foundations and then develop on to complex problems. Your child will be learning topics ahead of their primary school class. A typical maths session will include mental arithmetic, introduction and practice of a set topic from the syllabus, revision and review of previous lessons.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Every child has the potential to learn new things and expand their academic capabilities. However, the
11 plus exams are very challenging and requires hard work and guidance from parents and teachers.

At ILM, we’ll assess your child regularly to see if they’re coping well with the workload. If
improvements are needed, we’ll flag these concerns up with you immediately; leaving you to decide if
11 plus tuition is the right choice for your child.
Alternatively, you could continue on our standard tuition. This will definitely improve your child’s SATs
results in year 6 and give them an excellent advantage at their secondary school.

You can cancel any time. Just give us one months’ notice before the end of the next payment date,
and we’ll cancel your payments. See our terms and conditions for more details.

Our classes are small- six students to an adult.
As our sessions are a minimum of two hours each, your child will have plenty of the tutor’s time and
attention.

We don’t guarantee a pass, no tutor or centre can or should!
But we can guarantee progress and increased academic capabilities.

A lot depends on your child’s aptitude and willingness to learning, their mindset and parental support,
amongst other factors. Some students sit the exam with only 6 weeks of prep, some 6 months and
others for more than two years. We recommend starting in year 4 to get a steady head start, but
starting in year 5 is also common. If you’re uncertain about your child, we’ll be happy to have an
informal chat with you to discuss your needs.

The 11 plus is not easy; it was designed to distinguish children for selective schools. That being said,
it is not impossible either.
The 11 plus assesses KS2 knowledge (syllabus ranging from year 3 to year 6). At the time of sitting
the exam, students will have just started their year six at school. So, the shortfall must be met with
some sort of preparation. That’s where our tuition can help your child excel.
You should bear in mind, due to the increased number of applicants sitting the 11 plus, it’s not enough
to simply pass; one must achieve a high score to ensure a seat at their school of choice.

If you have any other questions, we’ll be glad to help. Just drop us a message.
